Ideal window: 24 to 34 weeks
(Available up until delivery—image quality will vary from 32 weeks on)
 

• 24 weeks - See baby's face and chest in one image, see the hands and feet, the facial features are just starting to develop at this point
• 26 weeks - See baby's face and chest in one image, the facial features are continuing to develop 
• 28 weeks - Baby's face starts to develop facial features that resemble one or both parents.
• 30 weeks - Baby will have most of their facial features at this time
• 32 weeks - SWEET SPOT, Your baby's facial features are developed and this is a wonderful time for an ultrasound
• 34+ weeks - Amazing details as the facial features are more formed from now until delivery (Please note: sometimes it is hard to get a FULL fetal face at this time, for that reason we recommend booking a 25 minute, but ideally a 40+ minute scan for best chances to see your baby's face.)
•  36+ - Baby's facial features will be more prominent but low fluid or breech (butt down) positioning greatly affect the image quality at this gestational age.

The closer to delivery, the more developed your baby is and the more developed their facial features are. This has both its advantages and disadvantages. At 26 weeks we are normally able to see your baby's face and chest in one image, but they will have a more bony facial structure because most of the weight gain is in the 3rd trimester.  By 34/36 weeks your baby's face will look full and we will be able to see more facial features since your baby is closer to delivery, but low amniotic fluid and breech positioning greatly affect image quality at this gestational age, so Plan your ultrasound accordingly.
